1 サンプルエッセイ

Topic:

In some counties, when someone gets old, they often go to live in a home with other older people where there are nurses to look after them. Sometimes the government has to pay for this care. Who do you think should pay for this care, the government or the family?

You should write at least 250 words.

Essay:

The cost of financing facilities for senior citizens continues to be a controversial topic as it is demanding for most retired people to secure the budget. Even though some argue that their offspring must take care of their parents, I believe the governments must provide sufficient financial support because elderly people have already paid taxes for more than forty years on average and some of them cannot count on their families.

To begin with, governments must set aside some part of tax incomes from workers for their lives after retirement. Otherwise they cannot validate the reason a significant portion of salaries is withheld as income taxes for more than decades. To give you an example, in Japan, the typical individual tax rate is around 20%. In this case, employees end up paying eight years of their annual salaries and bonuses over forty years of their tenure. Given the almost lifelong contributions to governments, retired citizens deserve financial support.

Another reason is that it is difficult for some senior citizens to seek assistance from their families. In the first place, if a person prefers a single lifestyle, he cannot count on his partner or progeny. In addition, in case a woman lives up to hundred years old, her partner might have already passed away and it is cruel to depend on her sons and daughters as they have already retired too. Overall, it is naive to assume the financial assistance from families is available to everyone.

To summarize, I completely agree with the idea that the fees for a retirement home are covered by governments in order to reward the hard-working of retired citizens and remove solitary seniors of financial strains.
