1 サンプルエッセイ


Some people believe that teacher should be strict in order to best motivate students while others say that friendly teachers are more important. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

You should write at least 250 words.


The best teaching style continues to be a controversial topic. Some aver that students feel comfortable and encouraged to study harder with a friendly teacher. Contrastingly, others maintain that strict coaching is vital as it clarifies the current status and focuses on what need to be improved. From my perspective, I espouse the latter as people need some levels of stress to develop their abilities.

To begin with, students tend to prefer an amiable teaching style so that they feel comfortable during a lesson. These young learners are apt to be afraid of making mistakes and failing to gain a target score in an exam. Under such circumstances, friendly teachers have an advantage as they offer feedback in a careful manner. This works particularly well when a student is disappointed and wants to avoid the predicament. To illustrate this, a friendly mathematics teacher can save a mathematics-averse student by telling him that everyone makes mistakes at the beginning and offer sufficient supports until he overcomes challenges. In these cases, gentle supports are necessary.

On the other hand, a strict teaching style has an advantage in clarifying the steps for improvement. This process is vital because if students are completely satisfied with the status quo, they are less likely to make an effort for further improvement. To illustrate this, it is common among athletes to change their teams so that they can learn from a strict coach. They willingly accept any types of criticism as they know the feedback is crucial while compliments do not improve their performance. Overall, if people strive to hone their strength, they need to heed rigorous comments.

To summarize, friendly teachers are suitable for students who find studies a burden.  However, I believe strict teachers should be more appreciated as they know how to maximize the potential of their students.
