サンプルエッセイ
Topic:
Some people argue children should stay in school until the age of 18 while others think that 14 years is long enough. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
You should write at least 250 words.
Essay:
I believe that teenagers should graduate from high school at or around the age of 18, while others maintain that a high school diploma is optional. This essay presents arguments on both sides, but leans in favor of my initial statement.
Looking first at the case supporting high school education; traditional educators take a stance that a high school diploma is vital to secure various academic options. When adolescents want to major in something in university, a high school diploma is a basic prerequisite in the enrollment process. Furthermore, an excellent academic career assists teenagers in gaining stable occupations in the future. This makes sense as the overwhelming majority of popular corporations consider educational history upon hiring new employees. For example, Toyota hires graduates from prestigious universities in Japan, while there is hardly any chance to be employed with only a secondary school diploma.
Turning to the other side of the argument; some ambitious people believe that talented teenagers must be focused on maximizing their potential, without being interrupted by traditional high school curriculums. They cite that school education does not benefit those who have a potential to be professional athletes, innovative entrepreneurs, and artists. Indeed, one of Japan’s most famous entrepreneur regrets that he stayed at high school instead of focusing on an online marketing business, and suggests that had he not stayed in school, his company would now be generating double its revenue. These types of people also state that the basic soft skills needed to be a viable member of society have already been developed by 14 years old. Elementary and secondary schools provide sufficient opportunities for children to learn to establish favorable relationships, understand the basic rules of society, and acquire basic team building skills.
In conclusion, the choice is fundamentally between ensuring a stable career and job opportunities versus pursuing a future that is out of the norm. It is my opinion that teenagers should graduate from high school to have a variety of options as life is unpredictable and often requires people to change their plans.
