サンプルエッセイ
Topic:
A lot of companies and organisations require employees to wear uniforms. Which kind of jobs are uniforms suitable for? Are there any disadvantages to wearing a uniform to work?
You should write at least 250 words.
Essay:
Many employees must put on designated uniforms for their duties. From my perspective, people who are involved in protecting public security should wear identifiable uniforms. However, uniforms could be harmful in terms of comfort and personal expression.
Public servants in the position of protecting public security need to wear uniforms. As a first step to elicit necessary support from citizens, they need to indicate that they are authentic and on duty. In this context, uniforms work extremely well, as citizen immediately recognize their authorities at a glance. This is the norm among police officers, fire fighters, and paramedics. For example, whenever people in public notice uniformed officers, it is an automatic reaction to check your own behavior. In contrast, if these personnel wore casual clothing, they would have to convince citizens that they are on duty, which could make the difference in thwarting criminal activities or saving people’s lives
On the other hand, wearing uniforms for an entire day often exhausts staff. Uniforms tend to be made with hard materials compared to casual clothing, and this precipitates neck ache, stiff shoulders, etc. Indeed, according to surveys, the majority of employees who must wear uniforms on ordinary days reported that they felt more comfortable and productive on business casual days. Furthermore, some employees want to express their personality by wearing their favorite clothing. They are aware that changing the styles of clothes enables them to give a suitable impression depending on an occasion. For them, wearing a uniform is anathema as it does not allow them to take advantage of a decent visual impression.
To summarize, uniforms are suitable for those engaging in protecting public security. However, it is my opinion that enforcing designated attire has downsides of making people tired and inflexibility of tailoring visual impression.
