Some believe that money for education should mainly be spent on better computers while others believe it would be better spent on teachers. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
You should write at least 250 words.
It is my opinion that educational institutions should secure generous budgets for teachers, while others may argue that performance of computers must be prioritized. This essay presents arguments on both side, but leans in favor of my initial statement.
Looking first at the case supporting competitive salaries for teachers; a large number of schools hiring talented teachers state that offering attractive salaries is the key to hiring competent teachers, which in turn leads to better educational outcomes. When sought-after teachers compare the conditions of job offers, remunerations can be a decisive factor. This is because competitive salaries give an impression that their career and personality are highly appreciated by employers. Additionally, there is little doubt that high salaries benefit employees in term of their personal finance. Indeed, according to the latest survey in Japan, affluent private schools are succeeding in retaining top-tier teachers. As a consequence, students in those schools develop better academic careers and soft skills.
Turning to the other side of the argument; digitally savvy principals claim that the cutting-edge computers are vital for students to take advantage of the latest technology. Indeed, sophisticated IT literacy would be an asset for them in the future as a myriad of employers are seeking IT engineers. This is because new technologies are generating a range of new industries, which need a number of IT engineers to develop services and maintain systems. For example, the jobs to applicants ratio for programmers in Japan has been significantly higher than other industries. Thus, even when the majority of job seekers are struggling to find a new job due to recession or other economic factors, most programmers are in a position of choosing the best job among several job offers.
To summarize, the choice is fundamentally between the quality of real life teachers versus developing practical IT skills. In my consideration, to address the variety of needs of students, it is better to improve the quality of traditional classes by hiring excellent teachers with competitive salaries.
