Topic:
In many countries, teenagers are encouraged to find part-time jobs. Some think this is a good development while others disagree. Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.
You should write at least 250 words.
Essay:
(Introduction)
It is my opinion that teenagers should be focused on studying without seeking part-time employment. This essay presents arguments on both sides, but leans in favor of my initial statement.
(Body Paragraph 1)
Looking first at the case of supporting part-time employment; a large number of teenagers who have work experience state that it became a formative experience in realizing what kind of abilities are required by society. In their workplaces, they are treated the same way as more mature employees, and expected to perform the same quality of service. When young staff do not meet this expectation, they receive feedback from their senior colleagues for their improvement. For example, teenage crews at McDonald’s tend to realize the importance of abiding by corporate manuals to ensure the flavor of hamburgers, prompt delivery, and providing a pleasant impression to customers. This experience nudges them to forge a professional mindset and develop useful soft skills.
(Body Paragraph 2)
Turning to the other side of the argument; others argue that teenagers must be focused purely on studying. They believe academic grades in high school have a significant impact on their future careers, and chances of securing stable employment can be enhanced by intense studying. In this context, studying can be considered a wise investment, as a significant portion of one’s lifelong income is earned by permanent jobs rather than part-time jobs. To illustrate this, the latest surveys in Japan discovered that there was a striking correlation between educational history and lifelong salaries. The deciding factor was the level of university, the enrollment of which depends on academic capabilities in teenagehood.
(Conclusion)
The choice is fundamentally between developing occupational skills at in adolescence versus investing in lifelong career opportunities. I believe teenagers should think about their lifelong plan and not develop occupational skills in haste. Therefore, I disagree with the premise that teenagers should seek part-time employment.
